WinRar is an archiving software that is useful when you need to transfer a large file or a few files, and have a restriction on the total size. WinRar can compress these files in just one file with a smaller overall size, which makes it easy to send via e-mail or upload to a website. However, if you downloaded a WinRar file, you will have to decompress, or extract it, to gain access to the archived files inside. This must be done using the same software, which can be installed at no charge.


  1. Downloading WinRar

      Double-click the saved file once the download has been finished and then click on "Yes" to confirm execution.

      Follow the step-by-step instructions of the Installation Wizard to install the WinRar archiving software to your computer.

    Opening WinRar Files

      Double-click the WinRar file that you want to open and the WinRar application will launch itself automatically.

      Click on the file or files that you want to open in the WinRar window and then click on the "Extract To" menu button.
    • 3
      Go to the location on your hard drive where you want to extract the files to and click on "OK." Double-click the new extracted file to open it.
